How to Get Free Stuff for Kids & Families Pt. 1

From free movie passes to free entertainment for kids, the Feb. issue of Reader's Digest has a great feature called Free Money, Free Stuff. Many of the suggestions are things that I have tried myself. So I'm writing about a few of the RD ideas with my own comments tossed in. Over the weekend, I will feature & comment on the other freebies mentioned in the article.

Free Stuff for Kids

1) Free autographed photos of Buzz Lightyear, Nemo & other Disney characters.

For a free autographed photo of a Disney character, write (yep, it's gotta be snail mail) to The Walt Disney Company, Attn: Fan Mail Dept., 500 South Buena Vista St., Burbank, California 91521. --Source: RD

2. Free interactive games and birthday greetings at www.disney.go.com.

Frugal Duchess comment: My kids have all enjoyed the variety of free games and activities on the Disney website. And when they get bored with a game, it's great because we didn't buy it. (No need to trade-in the games at the used video game store.)

My kids have also enjoyed the free interactive games at Crayola.com. (I've even played a few. Great bonding exercise.) The site also has an old-school coloring option. Download outlined pages of illustrations, print the page and give it to your kid to color.

3. Free subscription (two years) to Lego Magazine. Sign up at Lego.com.

comment: Okay, so it's really a glorified wish-list (infomercial!!!) book for kids. But my children enjoyed getting the Lego Magazine in the mail and liked looking at the product pictures. By the way, eBay, thrift stores and garage sales are a great place to sell or buy Legos (used and new).,

4. Free passes to movie screenings:
For free passes to screenings of big Hollywood movies, visit campuscircle.net filmscreenings or wildaboutmovies.com/screenings. Passes are first-come first-served or by lottery.
