How to Score Free Stuff: Beauty & Fun (Pt. 2)

From free haircuts to free beer, the Feb. issue of Reader's Digest has a great feature called Free Money, Free Stuff. Many of the suggestions are things that I have tried myself. So I'm writing about a few of the RD ideas with my own comments tossed in. Over the next few days, I will feature & comment on the other freebies mentioned in the article.

"Get your locks cut or styled for free by being a hair model at Bumble and Bumble University in New York. To apply, go to bbumodelproject.com." --source RD.com

My comment: I have received cheap, cheap hair cuts and hair treatments at different beauty schools. I've been pleased with the price and the results. But caution: Play the look-see game first. Not all students are created equally. Look at finished products before sitting down in anyone's chair.

Also one of my neighbors received a free hair cut when she was used as a model at a high-end (national name) salon. The results were stunning, but she was not expecting such a radical change. My advice: Make sure you are on the same page as the stylist.

"L'Oréal, one of the world's largest beauty-products companies, provides links to all its brands at lorealusa.com, such as Maybelline, where you'll find free help with makeup shades. And at lancomeusa.com, members can snag a free sample with purchase. The skin-care giant Clinique offers a live chat with a make-up consultant at clinique.com. Members also get a free sample with every purchase, plus great skin-care info.

Sephora, the retail chain, offers visitors to sephora.com three free makeup or perfume samples with each order."--source RD.com

My comment: In actual Sephora real-brick stores, I have had fabulous & free makeovers, with lots of free samples. Appt. required. It's a real bargain and the results were great. Sephora did my makeover on the photos I have used on this website. The makeover freebie is available to everyone. I've been quoted prices of about $40 at another well-known makeup chain for a comparable makeover.

"At dove.us, you get free product samples and expert skin-care tips when you share contact info and answer a simple survey. The same is true for olay.com. This website also gives free skin consultations weekdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST." --source RD.com

Free Ticket& Free Beer
"To attend free live tapings of favorite talk shows like The Late Show With David Letterman (New York) or The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (Burbank, California), go to the shows' websites for ticket info, or visit the theaters in person. For game shows or sitcoms taped in Los Angeles, go to tvtix.com." --source RD.com

Take the free factory tour at the Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee to see frosty ones brewed up close. Guests 21 and up can enjoy a free sample. Call 800-944-5483 or visit millerbrewing.com"--source RD.com
